Narrative Explanation as Methodology of Historical Sociology in International Relations

Abstract

Historical Sociology in International Relations is a good place to focus on history. From this view it can consider the weaknesses of rationalist perspective in this context and on the other hand, and the progress of reflectivist one to history. Because of synchronic view of rationalists to international relations, reflectivists have a diachronic one to take a historical approach. By continuing social turn, indeed, one can see the historical turn in the IR. In this context, HSIR can provide useful implications for re-imagining historical turn. This approach is related to historicist historical sociology by using narrative explanation as methodology. This requires a commitment to historical sociology related research is methodologically appropriate in order to advance. This article shows narrative explanation as a methodological technique proceeding Historical Sociological in International Relations (HSIR). Finally, contribution of narrative explanation in historical sociology can be considered as a new approach called post-structuralist historical sociology in IR.
