China and Action as a Emerging Power: Identity Challenges

Abstract

Since new millennium, one of the main events in international relations had been changes in power equations. Meanwhile, in comparison with the other emerging powers china s power evaluation curve and its rise had been center of academic and policy observation and assessments. The country had been a great power from ancient era to now and the stance resulted in vast population and territory and great human resources. This article aim is evaluation of china power dimension and identity challenges to act as a emerging power. The article argues identity is basis of interests and power and thus, the question that the article seek to answer to it, is what are the main identity challenges before china goal to act as a emerging power? Using descriptive-explanative method, the article found out the challenges distinguish from each other in national and international level. Findings of the article shows in national level, there are some identity challenges in economy (state-led socialist and market-led capitalists identities), sectarian (multiple minorities and their relations with Han majority) and political (party cleavages on internal and external policy making) and in international and regional level, there are multiple international identities.
