Improvement the Competitive Position of Iran Tourism in CIS, the Caucasus and Middle East Zones

Abstract

One of the industries that plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of countries is the tourism industry; it is a global industry, considered as a major business, and today its development, given the important role played by economic, cultural and political development, and the strengthening of international interactions One country is welcomed; it is also considered a necessity for developing countries such as Iran, which, despite having diverse tourist attractions, depend heavily on oil revenues. However, Iran's tourism is facing a serious threat in its competition with the neighboring countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus and the Middle East, according to the World Economic Forum report in 2017, Iran ranked 7th out of 10 in the Middle East And ranked 7th out of 9 among the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus and overall ranked 93rd out of 136 countries. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explain the competitive position of tourism in Iran among the countries against neighboring rivals based on global indicators of tourism competitiveness and providing solutions for improving the status of Iran. Based on this, through the library studies, global indicators of tourism competitiveness were extracted from the report of the World Economic Forum. Secondly, using an analytical descriptive approach, Iran's tourism status among the studied countries was determined based on five main indicators and 14 sub-indicators, and finally, solutions for improving tourism in Iran were developed based on development strategies.
